Getting athletes to register early — and register at all — takes more than just opening a registration page. Competition Corner includes a set of features designed to build momentum, create urgency, and recover lost registrations at every stage of the registration window. Used together, these tools help you sell out faster and reduce the risk of last-minute drop-off.
Go Live Before Registration Opens
You can publish your event page before registration is officially open. This is one of the most underutilised strategies for growing your event — getting your event indexed by search engines and in front of prospective athletes well before registration opens gives you a significant head start.
When your event is live but registration hasn't opened yet, the Register button is automatically replaced with a countdown timer showing exactly how long until registration opens. This builds anticipation and gives athletes a clear signal of when to come back.
Interest List
Alongside the countdown timer, athletes can join your Interest List — a lead capture tool that lets people signal their intent to register before the window opens.
When registration is set to open on a future date, a Notify Me button appears in place of the Register button. Athletes who click it are added to your interest list, and when registration opens, Competition Corner automatically sends them an email notification so they can register straight away.
This is particularly valuable for high-demand events — athletes who express early interest are far more likely to register when the window opens, and the automatic notification means you don't have to manually follow up with anyone.
Abandoned Registration Recovery — Hot Leads
Not every athlete who starts the registration process will finish it. Distractions, second thoughts, or a slow internet connection can all result in incomplete registrations that never convert. Competition Corner's Hot Leads feature automatically identifies these drop-offs and re-engages them on your behalf.
When an athlete starts your registration but doesn't complete it, the platform triggers an automated retargeting campaign to bring them back:
First touchpoint: An automated re-engagement email is sent within one hour of them leaving the registration page
Second touchpoint: A follow-up email is sent two days later if they still haven't registered
This is fully automated — no setup or manual follow-up required. Hot Leads runs quietly in the background and recovers registrations you would otherwise never know you lost.
Spots Remaining Visibility
One of the most effective ways to drive registrations is showing athletes how close you are to selling out. However, displaying available spots too early can work against you — if an event looks half-empty, it can reduce urgency rather than create it.
Competition Corner lets you set a spots remaining threshold — a percentage of your capacity at which the spots remaining count becomes visible on your event page. For example, setting a threshold of 75% means the remaining spot count only appears once you've reached 75% capacity, at which point athletes can see there are limited spots left and are motivated to act quickly.
This gives you the best of both worlds: a clean, confident registration page during the early stages of selling, and a powerful urgency signal when it matters most.
See Creating Divisions to set your threshold.
Registration Close Countdown
As your registration window approaches its close date, a 24-hour countdown timer automatically appears on your event page. This creates a final push of urgency for any athletes who are on the fence — a visible deadline is one of the most reliable motivators to get people to act.
This timer is automatic — you don't need to configure anything for it to appear.
Early Bird Pricing
Reward athletes who register early by offering a discounted price for a limited time. Early Bird pricing can be set as a flat discount or a division-specific price, and expires either on a set date or once a certain number of spots have been filled — whichever comes first.
See Early Bird Pricing for full setup details.
Waitlist
If a division sells out, athletes can join a waitlist rather than leaving empty-handed. The waitlist keeps interested athletes in your pipeline and gives you a pool of confirmed backfills if any registered athletes drop out.
See Enable a Waitlist for full setup details.
